رتینوپاتی نوزادان نارس
Retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) is a relatively new eye disorder in Iran.
Most of the epidemiological literature on visual disorders in Iran have either excluded the children at risk of ROP, or have evaluated them collectively with the entire range of age-groups in the community.
Similar to the global pattern, Gestational Age (GA) < 32 weeks and low Birth Weight (BW) < 1500 g are the strongest risk factors for ROP development and play a confounding role in assessing other potential risk factors.
The most important ROP risk factors in the Iranian studies were, saturation above 50%, septicemia, respiratory distress syndrome, intraventricular hemorrhage, continuous positive pressure ventilation, apnea, frequency and duration of blood transfusion, and oxygen therapy and phototherapy.
Currently, six Iranian referral centers are actively performing ROP screening based on the 'national guideline of ROP prevention'.
